Hi, my name is Sean, I live in Durban, South Africa. I am a father of two young daughters, Roxzan and Sherali. I try spending most of my life outdoors and I am passionate about the outdoors. Wildlife is probably my biggest love. My other pass times include fishing (any type, surf, fly, dam and river), cycling and am a qualified rugby referee, my biggest pass time is exotic bird and reptile breeding, that’s the reason for this site.
Somebody once said “I have a dream”, well this is my story:
I have been breeding exotic birds and reptile for some 15 years and have tried to teach and educate the youth to the importance of our wildlife, I taught both my daughters to preserve and conserve one of our most important natural wonders, OUR WILDLIFE.
I have seen and read many horrific stories how animals are caught and removed from their nests and then transported to all corners of the earth in totally inhumane conditions. Most of these poor animals die before reaching the destination, just to give an example of my statement: just about 8 months ago a vessel that had come to Durban from West Africa was found with 16 African Grey babies, no more than 10 days old. They were all shoved into a shoe box and transported with no water, food or sunlight. By the time these birds were found onboard the vessel, 13 of the birds had died, 2 of the remaining 3 were euthanized. Only 1 of the 16 survived, to these guys it was still worth the effort as they would still have made money. Now that makes my blood boil, the question is why?????????
Well as long as there is a demand there will be a supply.
This brings me back to my story, sorry I get very emotional about this.
About two years ago I had a ……….. well, call it a dream, imagine if we could supply the market with captive bred animals, would this not reduce the terrible manner in which our natural animals are caught and transported to satisfy the demand. Even more importantly, what about the extreme reduction of those animals in the wild, we have the perfect weather and conditions to breed any animal here in Durban, warm summers and our winter temperatures do not fall below 13c, heaven for any exotic animal. So to continue with my “dream” I want to breed endangered birds and reptiles to be released back to their natural environments, the USA, Australia and various South American countries aswell as our own country all have many endangered breeding programs. I believe with the perfect conditions we can help these countries and breed on behalf of them, very much in the same manner as Australia Zoo under the guidance of the experienced Steve Irwin. Further to this I would like to see a facility in South Africa that is a final home for the many ill treated and tortured animals, somewhere they can live the rest of their natural lives with no threat, something like Monkey World in the UK. Over the last 5 years I have had roughly 20 exotic pets given to me to care for as their owners no longer wanted to care for them, the question is, if I was not in a position to take and care for these animals where or what would have happened to them. This further illustrates the importance of such a facility, in my present location I cannot accept any more animals, which really saddens me as there are so many animals that are seeking sanctuary.
I have spent the last 2 years designing and researching to develop such a facility, I have accumulated probably 5000 pages of information, changed the plans maybe 50 times and expanded the species every time I hear of more animals that are under threat and been killed. One day our children will only see the beauty in books and photographs; don’t know about you, but to me that’s not acceptable. Damm those people that were caught with the African Greys got away with murder, a measly R1000 fine. Sorry, there I go again. The facility will have an educational school camp where our youth come for a few days (very similar to summer camp in the USA) where they will be taught about our fast reducing natural wonder. Also viewing areas will be developed where the visitors can interact and view the animals.
Ok, back to the story, I have tried to raise finance for the project, not only here in South Africa but also from around the world, every one thinks it is a brilliant idea but no one wants to help. I have advertised on the internet looking for possible investors, well I have been scammed three times to the tune of $15000. My fault I suppose, I tend to trust people, I have visited Europe twice and once to the UK to visit “supposedly” investors. Each time there is a catch and I end up loosing on the air fare and accommodation.
I have also had roughly 200 offers of millions and millions of dollars from so called relatives of deceased heads of state and other multi billionaires. These details have been forwarded to scamwatch, a global organization trying to prevent theses guys from doing “business”
Despite the above frustrations I will not give up, I will preserver until I have raised the money I need.
Until recently, I have exhausted all options, I have our own government interested, but we all know how long that can take working with the government.
Then I read a very interesting article where two youngsters had created bloggs. One raised money for his personal studies, he raised $1million dollars in just 6 months, the other raised money for some or other expedition he wanted to go for educational purposes.
Well this gave me some hope, if they could raise that type of money for their personal aspirations, would I not be able to raise money for such a project.
This neither a charity plea nor am I promising any massive returns on monies donated, but rather knowledge that you have helped to create an extra wonder of the world. All donors will be listed on our website in our wall of friendship and I have enlisted and partnered with a reputable commercial attorney to keep track of all the financial aspects of the project, should you wish to contact him, I have listed his contact details below.
My thought is if I can get as many people to donate $10 USA (I have made the minimum of $10 as we will have to pay financial commissions of around $1-10 per transaction, and there is no maximum) to the project I could begin the development of this truly exciting and worthy project. Rather than call it a donation, lets rather look at it in another manner, consider $10 will feed a pair of parrots for a week or feed a pair of bearded dragons for a month.
You may have noticed how passionate I am about this project and I suppose I could ramble on for another few hundred pages. One last request, those people that are out to scam, please do not use this as another opportunity, I have had 2 years of running into dead ends, for those of you who believe this is a worthy project, please forward me a mail and I will send you our banking details. I am hesitant to publish the account on this site as I am sure hundreds of ….. lets call them dubious business people will try to practice their bad habits.
You can reach me in the following ways:

Oh and lastly: the project is called UKUTHULA, the Zulu term for tranquility and beauty.
I have also registered ukuthula.co.za and email address sean@ukuthula.co.za however this is still in the development stages and will keep you updated to the launch of the website, then you will be able to see all developments of the project weekly, now how cool will that be.
I sincerely hope that I will reach enough people to help with this project through this site.
Sean
